Deflated Series

"Deflated," a series of 24 works (8 sets of 3 related works), began as Covid-lockdown black-ink doodles, enhanced later with colored pencils. The next iteration comprised the same design created with fabric swatches. Then I reimagined the flat images into three dimensional, fabric-covered styrofoam shapes. In contrast to my emotive forms, which were created with little conscious thought and even less planning, these works were conceived as geometric, straight, square, and orderly, requiring planning, precision, and conscious choices about color palette, size, shape, etc. However, time, gravity, and roaming cats altered the original design. No matter how I tried to organize my life, my art, myself . . . things change.
